Preparation & Warmup Tool Setup (0:00-1:20)
0:00-1:06: “Hello. Hello. Welcome back to another training video. We’re going to pick up where we left off on the startup checklist of the CNC operations. Um, and today we’re gonna be focusing on making sure that you have a warmup tool ready in the machine for the spindle warmup routine when we actually get to that step. Okay? And it’s easier to do this when the machine is not powered on, which is why this step is in this order sequence before we actually power on the system. And that’s because it’s easier just to simply move the machine outta the way manually. Um, if you need to clear your tool rack and your tool changing station. So let’s, let’s pass it over to past Chris that kind of showed the, um, steps it takes to install a tool in a tool holder for those that have auto tool change systems. Um, so that we can prep our warmup tool in the machine. Your machine comes with tool holders and cots as well as with a can of Dyna Glide lubricant spraying. Let’s start with a brand new tool holder and we’re going to assemble or clean and assemble this tool holder”
1:10-1:20: “That’s gonna have a lot of protectant uh, oil on there and we’ll need to clean all of that off. So we’ll unthread the call it, call it nut, I mean,”
Tool Holder & Collet Cleaning (1:20-2:40)
1:16-1:39: “So we’ll unthread the call it, call it nut, I mean, so this is the call it nut in your tool holder using our Dyna Glide, we will clean all of those surfaces. Okay?”
1:53-1:55: “And then we’re gonna do the same thing for the collet.”
2:03-2:06: “Again, it’s gonna have all this grease on here, so we need to clean all that off.”
2:09-2:40: “The Dyna Glide does two things. It helps clean but also dissipates heat so that these products will last longer. With everything clean, we’re now ready to assemble our tool holder. Now it’s important that we do this correctly or it can co, it can cause damage to our cutters, the tool holder or collar and even the spindle. So let’s show you how that’s done. The first thing we need to do is, uh, properly assemble the Colette with the call it nut. Now there’s this kind of groove in here along the top surface of the Colette”
Tool Holder Assembly (2:40-4:05)
2:37-4:05: “of groove in here along the top surface of the Colette and that’s gonna lock directly into a kind of a steel ring on the internal side of the actual call it nut. So once you press, you’re gonna hear a click and you know you’ve done it correctly when this is about flush and if you turn it upside down, it doesn’t fall apart. They’re now connected with one another another. After that we can then take this and thread it directly onto the threads of the tool holder. And I’ll just thread that on until I can start feeling the call it start to compress. And I’ll back that off about a half of a turn. One final note on the tool holder itself after it’s been assembled with the call it and call it nut, is we need to protect this section of the tool holder ’cause this is what’s gonna go directly into our spindle. Um, and we’re not allowed to spray or apply anything inside of the spindle itself. So we need to make sure that these are maintained and protected, um, with the tool holders, uh, ’cause this is what’s gonna go inside and outside the spindle. So what we’re gonna use and what the spindle manufacturers recommend is this dry PTFE lube, which is, um, in essence a dry grease spray. And the instructions say that we’ll simply apply it to the surfaces that we need to protect, in this case the cone and the pole stud areas. And then we will, uh, wipe off all the residue and then let this dry for about 10 or 15 minutes before we can use it. And then this will fully cure once it’s been”
Installing the Cutter (4:05-5:55)
4:03-4:24: “And then this will fully cure once it’s been applied after 24 hours. So if you take this, shake it up well and we’ll just apply this again to the cone section and then we’ll just wipe off the residue,”
4:30-5:12: “Make sure it’s nice and clean, and again that that will penetrate into that surface, protecting that, um, for a longer period of time. This will also be applied to our, our maintenance scheduling and we’ll cover that, um, in those videos when we talk about maintenance. But now this, once it’s dried for 10 or 15 minutes is ready to be used and we can actually attach a tool and apply this into the machine. Now we’re ready to put in the 27 0 4 cutter. That’s the surfacing cutter from magnate into our tool holder. A brand new cutter though is gonna have the same thing. It’s gonna have kind of this protectant, uh, sometimes rubber coating on there or grease. And so we’re gonna remove that and then we’ll need to clean that as well.”
5:17-5:55: “Okay, now let’s go show you how to install the tool in the tool holder in the tool changing clamp at the machine. Now in the back right corner of your machine next to your tool rack, you’re gonna find this tool changing clamp. Let’s show you how to use that properly now to open up the tool clamp. Um, this front latch won’t lift until you lift up the back and then this latch will then open. So this is simply a locking latch and we’re gonna take our tool holder. Now the tool holder has some flats on the shoulders here. Those flats need to go on the inside edges of the actual tool changing clamp.”
Tool Holder Insertion & Positioning (5:55-7:00)
5:53-6:27: “of the actual tool changing clamp. If I put it in there with the sides not facing towards those, I’ll have to rotate it and then you’ll see it seats properly. Once those have lined up, then we can insert our cutter. Now for the cutter, you want a minimum of about one inch of shaft going into the Colette. Um, but you’d never want to bottom out the tool in the actual call it itself. So we’re gonna insert a majority of that shaft and then we can tighten it up.”
6:30-7:00: “Now we’re ready to insert this into our tool rack. We’re gonna place this in tool number one from the right side of the machine. That’s gonna be this back right corner from right to left. And that goes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. If I’m at the operator, that’s gonna be from left to right this corner closest to this. Um, back right corner will always be tool number one. So let’s show you how to properly insert the cutter into these tool clips. Now the tool holder has a groove here in the center.”
