Shut Down Routine

This tutorial provides a concise guide on the proper shutdown procedure for a CNC machine after completing a project, emphasizing the importance of following a specific sequence to maintain the machine’s integrity. The instructor, Chris, outlines the key steps involved in safely shutting down the machine, which include:

  1. Returning to the home screen on the machine interface.
  2. Selecting the “Put Tool Away” command to prevent tool seizing due to temperature or humidity changes.
  3. Following up with the “Park System” command to facilitate an efficient homing sequence for the next use.
  4. Powering off the main power switch, ensuring that the controller will handle itself properly during this process.

Main purpose: To instruct users on the correct procedure for shutting down a CNC machine, ensuring that tools are secured and the machine is prepared for future operations.

Key takeaways:

  • Importance of putting the tool away to prevent seizing.
  • Use of the “Park System” for easier homing on the next operation.
  • Proper power-off procedures to maintain machine functionality and safety.

Proper Shutdown Procedures (0:00-1:28)

0:00-0:07: “Hello. Hello, welcome back to another Legacy video. My name is Chris. And in this video. We’re going to show you how to properly shut down the machine.”

0:13-0:44: “After you’re done running any type of program, we need to go through a proper sequence of shutting down we go back to the home screen and on the right hand side. We have the two commands. We have put tool away and park system. We’re going to put the tool away first and that’s very important to do because if we don’t if there’s any temperature or humidity changes within the shop, you can run into a risk of the tool seizing within the spindle. So again, very important that we do this Step at the end of every day. So if we push the put tool away, that’s exactly what it’s going to do.”

0:55-1:11: “After the tool is put away. We’re going to press Park system. That makes it really fast for the Homing sequence tomorrow. And now we don’t have to worry about shutting down the controller that will take care of itself when we hit the main power switch and now we’re ready to go do that step to finish this off.”

1:23-1:28: “You now have done a shutdown routine properly and as always thanks for watching and we’ll see you in the next video.”
