This tutorial provides a concise guide on the proper shutdown procedure for a CNC machine after completing a program. The instructor, Chris, highlights essential steps to ensure the machine is safely and effectively powered down, including:

  1. Returning to the home screen after program completion.
  2. Utilizing the “Put Tool Away” command to prevent tool seizing due to temperature or humidity changes.
  3. Confirming the tool is securely put away before proceeding.
  4. Activating the “Park System” command to prepare for an efficient homing sequence on the next use.
  5. Shutting down the controller automatically, ensuring a smooth power-off process.

Main purpose: To instruct users on the correct shutdown procedure for a CNC machine, emphasizing the importance of tool care and system readiness for future operations.

Key takeaways:

  • Importance of using the “Put Tool Away” command to prevent tool damage.
  • Efficient shutdown using the “Park System” for future use.

Proper Shutdown Procedure (0:00-1:28)

0:00-0:07: “Hello. Hello, welcome back to another Legacy video. My name is Chris. And in this video. We’re going to show you how to properly shut down the machine.”

0:13-0:44: “After you’re done running any type of program, we need to go through a proper sequence of shutting down we go back to the home screen and on the right hand side. We have the two commands. We have put tool away and park system. We’re going to put the tool away first and that’s very important to do because if we don’t if there’s any temperature or humidity changes within the shop, you can run into a risk of the tool seizing within the spindle. So again, very important that we do this Step at the end of every day. So if we push the put tool away, that’s exactly what it’s going to do.”

0:55-1:11: “After the tool is put away. We’re going to press Park system. That makes it really fast for the Homing sequence tomorrow. And now we don’t have to worry about shutting down the controller that will take care of itself when we hit the main power switch and now we’re ready to go do that step to finish this off.”

1:23-1:28: “You now have done a shutdown routine properly and as always thanks for watching and we’ll see you in the next video.”
