In 1978 Fredrick was fascinated by an article he read in the Readers Digest featuring a spiral staircase that was built in a Santa Fe City convent. This along, with the fact that he had always worked with his hands alongside his father, influenced him to later become involved in the woodworking profession.
Fredrick loves challenges. Consequently, he has always allowed himself to be open-minded, accepting other's suggestions in his pursuit to become a master craftsman.
Shortly after Fredrick received a contract to build a project requiring rope molding accents, he came across an advertisement in a magazine featuring a uniquely different machine that would allow him to mill creative turnings without a lathe. Always looking for better tools and better ways to enhance his woodworking skills, Fredrick contacted Legacy Woodworking Machinery and requested more information concerning their Legacy Ornamental Mill.
Realizing that the Legacy would become one of the primary woodworking tools of the future, he purchased their full package, Legacy's Model 1500EXL and has not been disappointed with his investment by any means.
Since the Legacy Ornamental Mill has allowed him to be more creative in his woodworking productions he not only has increased his personal enjoyment in what he is doing, his business opportunities have also accelerated.
"I have been able to greatly enhance my business because of my new capability of creating custom millwork; once my name got out, the machine paid for itself over and over again. As far as return on investment? - this is one of the best pieces of equipment that I've ever owned.
'As a furniture maker I am always looking for tools that set us apart from the rest; in short, we are making our own legacy in the custom woodworking business. The Legacy becomes a very simple tool to use once you understand the fundamentals. It really puts you a cut above a lot of other people out there. Actually, I am really surprised more people aren't buying a Legacy Mill.
'There is a lot of money to be made with that machine and I'm making it! With the Legacy, the more I do the more I discover what I can do on it. The design possibilities that it allows me to conjure up are unlimited.
'My favorite feature of the mill, however, is its logic. The machine has a plain, simple logic to it." Frederick Haas
Frederick's more famous customers have been the well known womens professional tennis champions Serena and Venus Williams. They first commissioned him to create and a complete bedroom ensemble similar to a pictured one that they showed him. It consisted of a four poster bed with matching night stands, a stylish highboy closet styled in the Early American fashion, and a beautiful doubled drawer dresser with curved drawer fronts.
They were so pleased with the results that they came back several times more and commissioned him to build other pieces comparable to the first. A massive dinning room table, patterned after one photographed in a monastery, was the next piece of furniture that he build for the Williams sisters. Frederick looked at the original design and then adapted the table that he built to the needs and desires of his newly acquired patrons. Using TurboCAD, Frederick first designed the project to scale and then, with his client's approval, worked from there.
Other projects that Frederick has completed include a beautiful full-wall entertainment ensemble with side display centers, a full-walled and mirrored entertainment ensemble with side display centers, a closed book cabinet ensemble with open self wings and an open book cabinet ensemble with closed self wings.
Many of Frederick's creations have been featured in several of our publications as well as on our website.
"I could not have built the four poster bed with its matching night stands as I did without the milling capabilities of the Legacy Ornamental Mill. Because of this machine the turnings on the bed and on the night stands match and are highly visible adding unique accents to the furniture that they are attached to. This holds true with the dinning room table as well. The Legacy makes what I love to do a lot easier.
'It would be much more difficult for me to be able to make a living in the woodworking profession if it were not for the Legacy Ornamental. I have appreciated very much the support and suggestions that Andy, Tracy, and Dane have given me. I like the feel of a family-run business and the fact that this family cohesiveness is reflected in their customer service better and allow me to feel like one of the group." Frederick Haas
