Profile

Mr. KinKaid writes: "I am 76 years of age and have been working with wood in excess of 25 years. I started out with a second hand Craftsman radial arm saw and a few assorted hand tools. I have loved every minute of it. Is there anything more satisfying than seeing a rough sawn board become a beautiful piece of furniture?

My assortment of tools has grown over the years and about eight years ago, at a large wood show, I first saw a Legacy mill being demonstrated. I knew immediately that it was a tool that I had to have. After a couple of years of "wishing" I purchased a model 1200 and have since added the turn table, vertical and horizontal vises and several other accessories. The versatility and accuracy of this equipment truly leaves only ones imagination as the limit as to what can be done.

Ego, at times, leads me to think that I have become pretty good at crafting wood projects which range from canes, to grandfather clocks but I am humbled when I view the gallery of Legacy woodworking. I am made aware that I have a long way to go to achieve the level of expertise that so many others have! Thanks to the joy that I experience using my Legacy mill, I hope to continue to improve. Four years ago, I became fascinated with laser engraving and purchased a 40 watt machine. I have incorporated the versatility of that option into many of my projects.

Mr. Kinkaid specializes in building beautiful grandfather and wall clocks for his family and friends. He has further stated: "I will be sending you several e-mails each on a project that I have crafted using my model 1200 Legacy mill and several of the attachments such as the rotory table. This is my latest grandfather clock; totally of my design and constructed of solid cherry with some curly maple for accent. As mentioned in our telecon, I have 8 children and have promised each a grandfather or grandmother clock. This is the sixth and the picture of the clock with three of us is my wife, the son who this clock was built for and myself. I wanted to incorporate several geometrical elements into the design of this clock and as you can see the base is square, three colums arranged in a triangle supporting a hexagon "table". The waist is a polygon, as is the crown and the the circle around the clock dial.
